Farewell our good friend Blogger of nearly 6 years. I think our first post was around 2005! Our daughter was not even born then! You were the best there was and have treated us wonderfully allowing us to post our wedding film work and promote our wedding video, photography, and film business.

Lauren & Brad Congdon - First Presbyterian & The Houstonian Hotel - June 4, 2011

Happy 1 month anniversary, Lauren and Brad! Julie, myself, and our crew had a great time with them at their wedding last month. First Presbyterian Church in The Museum District of Houston and at The Houstonian later that night for their reception.

We loved how they took a moment to hold hands, but not see look at each other before the ceremony. That was really special. (wish I had done that with my wedding!) John Ly, our photographer friend got a good shot of this too.

The DJ at The Houstonian Damon Pampolina with PRP Entertainment brought tons of fun energy to the party. He is great. Always has been every time we work together.

The Literary Greats CD Release Party - "Black Blizzard"

Awesome privledge to have talented artist friends. Our good friend Brandon Elam and Chris Ginsbach accompany a group of several other very talented musicians in their band - The Literary Greats.

A side note. I love The Literary Greats music because it is a bit raw, honest, and unpredictable. The sound variations and patterns are really creative. They have a sound of their own. Very original. Refreshing. Reflective, yet upbeat and happy. Check them out on iTunes and on Facebook!

Back to last night. The Literary Greats held a CD release party for their new album Black Blizzard to a packed Continental Club of Midtown/Downtown Houston, Texas. There were just under 200 people in attendance.

Julie and I got to get a word from the band about the meaning of their album and what led them to title it "Black Blizzard". Enjoy this short documentary piece for our good friends The Literary Greats and their new Album Black Blizzard.

Congratulations to Chris and Emily--an amazing San Antonio wedding!

By now, you've just celebrated your 1 month anniversary. Honeymoon in Hawaii, now settling in to your new life together. We wish you all the best.

Julie and I had an awesome time putting this short wedding film piece together. Julie and one of our partner Andy Moody with Cinema Elegance out of Chorpus Christi teamed up to film this event. I was in Houston at another wedding on this date. Andy has a great eye for film, awesome with all things audio, and is really easy to work with (he also has some really sweet lenses and other gear!). Thanks Andy!!

It was a real treat to be called to San Antonio to work with Chris, Emily, and their family on this wedding. The Ceremony was held at University United Methodist Church. The Reception was held at a gorgeous wedding venue in San Antonio--The Club at La Sonterra.

YES Prep - Video & Photography Mentors -Fall 2010 Lunch & Learn Day

Two weeks ago, The YES Prep, Y Blazers Studios Mentor Board got an opportunity to eat lunch with the bright young students of YES Prep North Central Campus.

Each member of The Mentor Board took 5 minutes to tell the YES Prep students a bit about their business and offer information about internships offered. The students then split up in groups of 3 students to 1 Mentor. The Mentors spent time answering questions from the students about their line of work and any internships offered.

The Y Blazers Studios Mentor Board is composed of 6-10 companies in the field of Video Production and Photography in Houston. Attending the November lunch were:

The mission of The YES Prep, Y Blazers Studios Mentor Board is to connect video production, photography, and other multimedia professionals to high school students. We encourage working internships, strengthen professional relationships, and educate to improve technical skills.

2) Learning events (next event likely will be an After Effects class taught by Kevin Fitzgerald or Mike Alderfer)
3) Internships

SBMSA 5/6 Boys Soccer 2010

Best part of owning a small family business is having the freedom to be very involved with my kid's sports. For the 2010 Soccer Season, I was the coach of Jackson's team The Frostwood Tigers as well as The Commissioner for The 5/6 Boys Soccer League. I really enjoyed working with the parents, coaches, and kids.

As a thank you to SBMSA for allowing me to serve as Commissioner for 2010, Perry Video & Photography created a short film of yesterday's tournament. It was a very exciting tournament with both final games of the Silver and Gold Brackets winning by just one goal. One of the teams had to go to overtime to finish it off.

Briscoe Manor - Michelle and Harry Harris - 10.10.2010

Briscoe Manor offers their clients such a wonderful place to show their personalities. What do you get when you combine Italy, Delaware, Purple and Orange Poker Chips, Las Vegas, Kisses, Texas Ranch setting, Down Home Southern Fried Food, Photo Booth fun, and Gorgeous Details everywhere? Our dear friends and clients Michelle and Harry definitely showed their cute and fun personalities at their wedding. What a unique event!

It was very touching to see Harry's father, a minister, perform their ceremony. Much of what his father said to Harry & Michelle during the ceremony is used in the film: wise words from a father to bless a new marriage.

Julie and I picked a special ensemble of songs to go with their wedding film. Interesting stories behind the song choices...

The first song actually was Michelle's choice. Abe Quigley's "Fallen". This is a cool story. I googled Abe Quigley and found him on Facebook, asking his permission to use "Fallen" in our client's wedding film. Abe was more than gracious and very flattered to be chosen. He gave us the a-o-k. What a classy artist! Abe is a very talented musician who uses a combination of violin and other instruments to create a beautiful mood for his songs. "Fallen" is majical.

As a side note, I've really become a fan of Abe. Not only is he a gentleman artist, but his music is really easy on the ears. Great instrumentals and smooth, sincere vocals.

The Ceremony song is a very sweet song by one of our favorite Triple Scoop Music artists--Fisher. "I will Love You" by Fisher.

Michelle's maiden name is Mingarelli, so we wanted her wedding film to carry on her spicy Italian personality and Italian heritage. We chose "Baciami" by Stefano Fuceli.

Welcome to our first extended film trailer release from our new product line of wedding documentary work--Perry Wedding Films!

Doing business since 2002, We are incorporated in Texas under Perry Video Productions Inc. To better serve our Houston brides and families, we just created a new product line for HD Films called "Perry Wedding Films". (www.perryweddingfilms.com) This product will be a wedding film that uses professional telephoto and wide angle lenses, DSLR Canon 7D, 5D, and Mark IV cameras, stabilizing equipment, and more live action (less slo mo!).

We are very excited to bring this product to our clients. We have trained for all of the first of 2010 to make sure that this was not only beautiful, but a secure way to produce video. We are always back up our files and shoot with back up cameras.

To this wedding film--The Mattix and Schultz families are very special to Julie and me. Angela is The Schultz Family's only daughter. We were very honored to be chosen to put this together. May it be a family treasure for years!

We have held out of the High Definition upgrade game for a while. We just did not see a big difference in our great Sony DSR 250 DVCam cameras. Well, the image has now arrived. In early 2010, we invested in new HD equipment. It is the Canon 7D, 5D, and Mark IV. Gorgeous image. Unlike anything anyone has seen to date. It was the time to make the move.

Stay tuned for our new product line release "Perry Wedding Films" for Cinematic High Definitions to better serve our beautiful Houston Weddings, Brides, and Families.

We are now shooting in 24p with Canon DSLR cameras (1080p HD!). We are really excited about this! This is the coolest, most beautiful thing to happen to video/film production in our 9 years of business.

Kalli and Richard - January 16, 2010

Julie and I enjoyed the wedding of Kalli and Richard Gonzalez last week. We've been away at IN FOCUS in Austin all week, so we are just getting around to editing her piece and sharing some of the great wedding memories.

The wedding was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring.

The Reception was at Shirley Acres. They always do such a nice job of hosting.

DJ was Jeff Raines with DJ's Unlimited. The also provided the beautiful lighting and photo booth.

My favorite part of the wedding was to hear Kalli sing. She looked so beautiful at her wedding. To hear her sing was amazing. She is a very talented vocalist! She sang and Yodeled--a tough thing to do.

Very sweet girl. Richard is a lucky guy.

She even let me take some fun pics with her in the photo booth. I'll treasure these forever!!!

Julian St. Pierre - Genius Entreprenuer; Generous Mentor- Rest in Peace

This evening, my wife told me of very sad news. Our good friend from New Orleans, Julian St. Pierre (center picture) of Studio Vieux Carre passed away in his sleep. Julian was a special individual.

While I am unsure of the details of his passing, I am very sure of my admiration for this man. I met Julian 8 yrs ago when Julie and I were in our 2nd yr of business. We lacked aim and artistic direction for our work. We were holding a booth at The Houston Bridal Extravaganza. The show was a mild success by that point. We were about to call it quits when it occurred to me to pull back the curtain and meet the booth behind us. The booth behind us was "Custom Video by Terry", which now is known as Studio Vieux Carre. That one instant changed the direction of our business. That instant was meeting Terry and Julian. Terry's artistic talent and Juliannes marketing genius were what we modeled ourselves after. Julian was unusually generous with his ideas. I loved how confident, even "a little cocky" as he would say, that he was. He was such a great energy to be around. I will miss him.

In my life, I have a handful of mentors that I learn a great deal from. Julian is in my top 5 or 10 for sure. He taught me so much about marketing a small business, in particular wedding video business. He was talented. He was nimble. He was very smart.

The last conversation I had with Julian, was about 6 months ago. We talked for 55 minutes! We would try to keep in touch about 1-2x/yr. I always had tons of questions for him about how he marketed his business and many other aspects of wedding and event video. To me, he is the king of wedding and event video. His business model is the best around. And, amazingly, he always continued to improve it, evolve it. With the creation of Collaborative Organizations like "In Focus" . He was God's gift to small business, in particular documentary video. He helped all the artists make money and keep from starving.

Funny thing, in that last conversation, Terry had to pull him off of the phone. He just loved to talk about marketing, video, and business. What a passionate guy!

I would like to know when the memorial service is. I owe a lot to Julian. Much more than I ever got a chance to tell him. I'm sure there are many in the Wedding and Event Video Production business who could say the same.

Julie and I will be praying for God's peace on Terry, her son, Joe, and their family. Julian, thanks to your enduring generosity with your ideas, your spirit lives on. Thank you for being part of our lives. God bless.

YES Prep YBlazers Studios Advisory & Mentor Board

It all began with one hard working student seeking to get more out of her YES Prep experience than the rest. This students name is Andrea Rodriguez. Based on the successful internship program Andrea held for 2 years with Perry Video & Photography, Yes! Prep Northeast has adopted her model of hard work to share with the other students. With the help of Craig Brandenburg, Mark DiBella, and Jack & Julie Perry, the YES Prep Advisory Board was created. The purpose of the board is to bring the best in local Houston video production business talent to the students of YES Prep.

The 2009-2010 year is the charter year of The YES Prep Y Blazers Studios Advisory Board of about 8 volunteer positions to work with the students at Yes! Prep. Yes! Prep has a video production and photography class and business that we will be working with to mentor and help them become knowledgeable video professionals. The structure of the Advisory Board is below.

The Advisory Board met with Mark Dibella and Craig Brandenburg from YES Prep on October 7th at Spanish Flowers Mexican Restaurant in The Heights from 5-7p. Each board member proudly wore their name tag with slogans like, "I love wedding video and kids!" or "I love motion graphics and kids!" or "I love legal video and kids!". The board has a lot of fun poking at each other. At the meeting, we introduced everyone on the Board, assign months for presentations to the students, and discuss future of board. The enthusiasm for this local business and student participation concept was outstanding! All of the Advisory Board is excited to begin this charter year to connect with the Yes! students. Currently, The Advisory Board has 2 programs:
1) Yes! Learning days
2) Yes! Internships during weekends and summer

The Advisory Board will base its involvement with YES Prep Northeast on these 2 programs. Additionally, The Board has discussed the potential for day long film festivals, during school internships, and other ideas to build on as the relationship with The Advisory Board and YES Prep matures. We are very excited to have such talented businesses share their expertise and experiences with YES Prep.

Julie and I got the opportunity to work with the very talented Winne Lee, owner of Winnie Couture Bridal Salon. She designs wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses that retail in stores all over the nation and world. She held her fall fashion show this past Friday. Been a while since we last blogged for Perry Video and Photo. Our young babies (Jackson age 3.5 and Annie age 1.5) have a lot to do with that. Blogging regularly is not as easy as it has been before.

But we're back blogging regularly. We'll see how this goes...

The best news we have for Perry Studios is that we now offer fine portrait and photojournalism photography in addition to video productions. Perry Video Productions is now doing business as Perry Video and Photo or Perry Studios. Admittedly, we have kinda a name identity crisis. We just like taking pictures and video. Tough to stick to just one name. Maybe we could just be like "Madonna", "Sting", or "Prince". Haha, Ya, I like that. Let's stick with that and just be "Perry" ;)

In 2008, we will launch a site dedicated specifically to fine portrait and photojournalism photography. It will be a nice flash site, likely. Check out our blog and www.perryvideophoto.com site for a link to the new one.

Hello Perry Family!

WOW! This is simply the only way I can start to describe how I feel about our video. It was unbelievable we were so happy to get it on Valentine's day THANK YOU so much for going the extra mile to meet us. It was great to watch it on our 1 year engagement anniversary right behind our 3 month wedding anniversary. It was phenomenal work. I was confident that the video was going to be nice, but I had no idea that it would look like a sample video! It was awesome. My parents and sisters have seen and we all laughed and cried. You truly captured the essence of how close I am with my parents and sisters. Thank you so much. My dad says he can't wait to get his copy so he can watch it everyday! I cannot thank you enough, it was truly amazing work. Julie and Jack you have a real talent for video filming and production. May God Bless you with above and beyond success in your business. Traci and Steve Theis wedding - January 28, 2006

On Saturday, January 28, 2006, the wedding ceremony of Traci and Steve Theis was celebrated by nearly 200 guests. The wedding ceremony was held at West University United Methodist Church. The reception following was at The Bella Terraza.

Many out of town guests celebrated this wonderful occasion with Steve and Traci. Steve's groomsmen and ushers--all 10 of them--traveled from different areas of Ohio to stand by Steve as he accepted Traci's hand in marriage.

That Saturday was filled with heavy rain. Thankfully, the rainy day ended at just the right time for Steve and Traci. Around 5:00, the Saturday rain eased up and the sun began to set just before the 5:30 wedding ceremony of Traci Payne and Steve Theis.

What impressed me the most, was the heartfelt devotion that Steve showed for Traci. It is very touching to see the heart of such a devoted spouse. Steve's reaction when Traci made her way down the center isle tells it all. Take a look at the below clip.

The reception was great fun! Evoke Photography was present. They always do a great job documenting the fun and dancing. James Levine with Dynamic Entertainment was the DJ. James is a smooth cat. He knows how to get the crowd dancing. Great to work with James again. Heather with The Bella Terraza as always gave top notch service to her clients and their guests. Traci and Steve had lots of fun! Steve really liked his rasberry amaretto cake. He forced me to try it, so I did. Yummmm!

Dan and Carrie Victor Wedding - January 14, 2006

Last night, Saturday, January 14, 2006, in front of a count of close to 300 wedding guests, we celebrated the marriage of Dan and Carrie Victor.

Dan and Carrie met each other about 2-4 years ago through mutual friends at a Cajun Crawfish Party. (sorry that my time reference is off, guys! My wife, Julie, likely knows the time exactly. She's the Math major and detail better half ;) )

Dan and Carrie are dear people. It was a pleasure to be around their families during their wedding day. It is no surprise how wonderful people find each other to make great couples.

The wedding ceremony was held at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. Shortly after 6:00pm, Carrie and her father walked the beautiful candle lit isle to give her hand in marriage to Dan Victor.

Following the ceremony, they proceded to the reception held at The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. If you have never been to The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center, make sure to check it out! It is a beautiful wedding destination. The staff that work the events there have known Julie and me for years. They are very professional and take great care of their event clients.

Music for the reception was provided by Robin with Rock-N-Robin Entertainment. Photography by Magnolia. Both great to work with.

At close to midnight, Carrie let Robin know that it was about time to close the party down and head to the bar downstairs with their friends.

Dan and Carrie will be honeymooning in Hawaii. Dan says no surfing, although it would be cool to say that he was. He'll stick with body boarding.

Dan and Carrie Victor Rehearsal Dinner - January 13, 2006

Friday, January 13, 2006 the Victor and Hansen family celebrated the rehearsal dinner of Dan and Carrie, soon to be Victor. I filmed the rehearsal dinner and worked as technician for LCD projector, DVD player, speakers, and screen of the photo montage of Dan and Carrie Victor. The Rehearsal Dinner was held at The Grotto in The Woodlands. Special toasts were made from Dan and Carrie to their friends as well as from their friends and family to Dan and Carrie.

One of the toasts that stuck out with me as an extra special one was the one from Carrie to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hansen. Follow this clip for a special moment of the rehearsal dinner.

Kelly and Lee Russell- January 7, 2006 wedding

One word comes to mind to describe this wedding LOTS OF FUN! (oh, that's three words. So much fun, I just could not keep it to one :)

Last night, Julie and I filmed the wedding of Kelly and Lee Russell. Surrounded by nearly 400 guests, Kelly and Lee celebrated their wedding in style.

The evening wedding ceremony was held at St. Teresa Catholic Church near Memorial Park. During the ceremony, the pastor encouraged them with this message, "The two of you will become partners with God. Together you can make God's love shown around the world by the simple way that you love each other." Accompanying the message of the ceremony was the sound of the Fort Bend Boy's Choir.

Following the ceremony, the reception was held at The Forest Club. They had a great cover band from Austin. That played a good mix of old dance music. I can't remember the name?? Everyone danced quite a bit. Steve Schmidt Photography (I hope I spelled that right--Schmidt??) was great to work with. I look forward to seeing the pictures.

Josh and Nicole - December 30, 2005 wedding

It has been 3 days since the wedding of Josh and Nicole. This was the 2nd time to work with this family. In spring of 2004, we filmed the wedding of Josh's sister. A true honor to be asked back to such a special occasion.

The wedding was held at River Oaks Baptist Church and The Houston Club on Rusk downtown. I have been tied up a bit with 2006 New Year fun and relaxation, so I'm just getting around to posting comments about their wedding.

After each wedding for 2006, Julie and I have committed to posting a short "next day" 1 minute video highlight and some memorable quotes from the wedding day. It's our new years resolution, so we'll see how it goes :)

Josh and Nicole have known each other since Junior High, so this wedding was indeed a special union of two people made for each other. From the sermon that was preached for these two lovebirds, 2 quotes most stand out in my memory.

"Keep a record of the past in pencil, not pen. Make sure that you can erase it easily and move forward with your relationship together".

"In all of my years, I have never met a more perfect couple for each other."

We just discovered Google Video. This is a very cool tool that we came accross to help raise the awareness to potential clients of just how fun and beautiful wedding video can be. Perry Video Productions gears up for 2006 Houston Weddings

Hello friends, family, and Perry Video Productions clients-

This is my first post in the blogging world. Thank you for joining the Houston Weddings blog. My wife and I began our wedding video production business in 2002. Since then, over 5 years we have had the honor of sharing in over 150 weddings. WOW! That time has gone by quickly.

Also during those years we added Jackson (now age 21 months) to our family. I'll get a picture up once I find a good one. Hey, I'll use our Christmas Card for this Christmas.

Anyway, with this blog, Julie and I will post short clips of the weddings we video. This will allow our friends, family, clients, and prospective clients to take a look at the work we are adding to our wedding video portfolio.

Julie and I are looking forward to a great 2006.
